Co. will be our new garbage company beginning the first of the year. Pick
up day will change from Tuesday mornings to Friday mornings. However,
if a holiday falls during that week, pick up day will be on Saturday. There
are only 6 holidays that will affect pick up during the year. They
are as follows: New Years, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving
and Christmas. The first pick up day of the year will be affected by the
Holiday.

COCHRANTON GREENWAYS TRAIL GROUP
WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED?
This past year hs been a busy time for the Cochranton Area Greenways Trail group. We've made progress in our effort to establish a hiking and biking trail in Cochranton area. The necessary steps have been taken and we are now incorporated as a non profit organization. We are registered with the IRS as a 501C3 nonprofit group. We have applied for three grants totaling $150,000. We are optimistic that we will receive these grants. Like most grants for this type of project we need to raise matching funds from the local community. In addition to cash contributions, work done by volunteers and work completed by local contractors can be considered as in-kind services.
WHAT IS THE NEXT PHASE?
Pending the release of the initial grant money, work should begin this summer with the first phase of the trail. It will be located within Lion's Park. The first step will include brush clearing and grading along the perimeter of Lion's Park. Second phase will entail development of the section of the trail from the new bridge over N. Franklin St. along the Little Sugar Creek dike and connecting to the recreation area adjacent to the High School. The third phase will be development of the trail along French Creek to the eastern end of the Borough in the vicinity of the Elementary School.
Cochranton Lions Club has already granted permission to develop the trail through their park. With release of the first grant money, easements will be sought from all landowners who border the proposed trail. Plans call for connecting the Cochranton Greenways Trail with the Ernst Trail in Meadville to the west and the Allegheny Valley Trail System in Franklin to the East. The trail in Franklin will be part of the National Trail running from Washington, DC to Toronto, CA. Cochranton Greenways Trail and the Ernst Trail will open a corridor from I-79 at Meadville directly to the National Trail System. This extensive network of trails will become a valuable tourist attraction and be a positive factor in future economic growth.

WHAT WILL THE TRAIL DO FOR COCHRANTON?
Both the State and Federal Government have put a great deal of energy and financial support into helping communities develop recreation trails. The completed Greenway Trail linked both east and west to a network of trails will be valuable tourist attraction. Families can enjoy quality time together, hiking, biking and enjoying the beauty of our environment. Because the trail will enhance he quality of life, industry will be encouraged to located in the regional area. It will bring more people to visit our local fair and our historic railroad station. There will be ample parking because it will be possible to access the Trail from Lion's Park, the Fairgrounds or the High School area.
